Cria Buy Back Program Overview

The Alpaca Group is pleased to offer a Cria Buy Back Program. This opportunity provides the buyer of a pregnant Dam (female alpaca) with the option to sell the Crias (alpaca offspring) back to The Alpaca Group or keep them and build your herd. The Cria Buy Back Program has 2 different buying opportunities for you, Premium or Standard.  At the Premium level, The Alpaca Group will buy back both female and male Crias.  At the Standard level, The Alpaca Group will buy back female Crias.

Standard Level

Purchase any pregnant Dam (priced below $30,000) and receive the option to sell a female Cria back to The Alpaca Group at six months of age (*). The sale price for the female Cria will be 40% of your Dam’s purchase price. Re-breed your Dam to one of our World Class Herd Sires (**), and again receive the option to sell a second female Cria back to The Alpaca Group on the same terms (*).

Premium Level

With the purchase of any pregnant Dam (priced at $30,000 or higher), the buyer will receive the option to sell the Cria back to The Alpaca Group at six months of age (*). The sales price for the Cria will be 40% of your Dam’s purchase price for a female Cria or 30% of your Dam’s purchase price for a male Cria. Re-breed your Dam to one of our World Class Herd Sires (**), and again receive the option to sell a second Cria back to The Alpaca Group on the same terms (*).

If 2 qualifying pregnant Dams are purchased, The Alpaca Group will agree to purchase up to 3 future Crias from each Dam on the same terms.

(*) – Cria must be in good health and pass a veterinarian exam.

(**) – Breeding Sire must be agreed upon by both parties.

Example Scenario 1

A buyer purchases a pregnant Dam for $30,000. The first Cria, a female, is sold back to The Alpaca Group for 40% of the Dam’s purchase price, or $12,000. The Dam is re-bred, and in the following year a second Cria, a male, is sold back to The Alpaca Group for 30% of the Dam’s purchase price, or $9,000. Proceeds of the 2 Cria sales would total $21,000.

Example Scenario 2

A buyer purchases 2 pregnant Dams for $30,000 each, totaling $60,000. That year’s Crias, a male and a female, are sold back to The Alpaca Group for a total of $21,000 ($12,000 for the female and $9,000 for the male). The Dams are re-bred, and the following year’s Crias, both males, are sold back to The Alpaca Group for $18,000 ($9,000 for each male Cria). The Dams are re-bred, and the next year’s Crias, both females, are sold back to The Alpaca Group for $24,000 ($12,000 for each female Cria). Proceeds of the 6 Cria sales would total $63,000.
